Biographie:
En 1996, un quatuor formé de Brad Delson, Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon et Joe Hahn décide de créer un petit groupe de musique. Mike a rencontré Brad dans l'école d'Agoura, en Californie, et ils sont vite devenus amis. Puis, Mike a changé d'établissement pour rentrer dans une école d'arts, dans laquelle il a fait la connaissance de Joe Hahn. Brad a sympathisé, durant cette même période, avec Rob Bourdon.

Les quatre amis formèrent un groupe d'Electro-Hip hop et de néo-metal, SuperXero. Mark Wakefield et Dave Farrell viennent rapidement compléter le groupe, qui, du coup, raccourcit son nom en Xero. Le groupe sort quelques démos, qui ne connaissent aucun succès, puis Mark Wakefield le quitte pour devenir manager de Taproot, et Dave Farrell met sa carrière entre parenthèses pour partir en tournée avec son autre groupe.

C'est suite à toutes ces perturbations que naît Linkin Park. En effet, le groupe se retrouvant à quatre, Mike lance un casting dans l'optique de trouver un nouveau chanteur. Chester Bennington, originaire d'Arizona, qui vient de quitter son groupe Grunge, Grey Daze, saisit l'opportunité. Intéressé par la proposition de Mike Shinoda, il lui envoie une cassette avec des enregistrements de sa voix, et devient la nouvelle tête de Xero. Son arrivée dans le groupe engendre par ailleurs une modification de son nom : de Xero, on passera à Hybrid Theory. Mais, ce nom ayant déjà été utilisé par un groupe d'electro, Hybrid Theory devient Lincoln Park, puis Linkin Park. Comme l'a précisé Chester dans une interview [réf. nécessaire], ce nom ne veut strictement rien dire. Avec son premier album, nommé Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park remporte un succès mondial et devient une figure emblématique dans le monde du néo metal. Les albums suivants, notamment Meteora, permettent au groupe de confirmer son statut de groupe phare.

Genre musical:
Linkin Park est un groupe de néo metal. Bien que les membres ne revendiquent en rien ce style, leur mélange de sons mélodiques et de sons lourds leur offre le statut de « groupe phare du néo ». Musicalement, Linkin Park se base sur des guitares saturée , de la batterie , des éléments de musique électronique, et d'autres de musique hip-hop. Le tout est régulièrement accompagné d'« effets spéciaux » conçus par Joe Hahn, et parfois de quelques touches de piano, de violon, de flûte japonaise, voire de xylophone et même de banjo. Pour le chant, Linkin Park mélange de manière très structurée des parties rappées, chantées, et haussées. Le style de Linkin Park se situe donc dans un intermédiaire entre le néo metal mélodique et le rap metal. Le groupe affirme détester le néo métal selon la revue 'tribu rock'.

Toutefois, Linkin Park ne fait pas que du Néo metal. Le groupe s'étend en effet sur d'autres genres, tels que le hip-hop (influence de Mike Shinoda), l'Electro-Hip hop (influences de Mike Shinoda, de Brad Delson, et de Dave Farrell), le rock alternatif et le metal alternatif (influence de chaque membre du groupe), le punk (influences de Chester Bennington et de Dave Farrell), et même le pop rock (influence de chaque membre du groupe).

Bien que le genre principal du groupe soit le rock, Linkin Park est donc également assez proche de la scène rap / hip-hop. En plus de Mike Shinoda (alias Fort Minor), le "rappeur" du groupe, la bande a également collaboré avec des artistes tels Jay-Z mais aussi The X-Ecutionners, Styles of Beyond, Young Buck, Xzibit ou plus récemment Busta Rhymes.

A la fin de l'année 2007 mike et chester ont affirmé lors d'une interview qu'ils avaient changé leurs priorités de style pour leur nouvel album qui est cité plus loin. Ce style est plus basé sur la voix de chester et moins sur le neo-metal qu'auparavant... ce qui est un grand changement pour eux et pour les fans... car il y aura toute une nouvelle gamme de personnes qui l'applaudiront lors d'une tournée mondiale...
